Arabia, more commonly known as the Arabian Peninsula, is a vast landmass in Southwest Asia. It is bordered by the Red Sea to the west, the Arabian Sea to the south, and the Persian Gulf to the east, making it the largest peninsula in the world.

### Geography

The geography of Arabia is dominated by a hot, arid climate and a vast desert environment. The peninsula’s interior is largely covered by the Arabian Desert, which includes some of the largest sand deserts in the world, such as the Rub’ al-Khali (“Empty Quarter”). Mountains, particularly the Sarawat Mountains, run along the western and southern edges of the peninsula, with some peaks reaching over 12,000 feet. There are very few permanent rivers or lakes; instead, the region’s limited water is found in oases and wadis (riverbeds that are dry most of the time).
